Understanding Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
ARFID is an eating disorder characterized by persistent avoidance or restriction of food intake that can interfere with physical health, nutritional adequacy, or everyday functioning.
Unlike anorexia nervosa, ARFID is not primarily driven by fear of weight gain or dissatisfaction with body shape.
Individuals with ARFID may struggle with certain textures, smells, tastes, or appearances of food. Others may fear choking, vomiting, or other uncomfortable consequences of eating.
Some experience very limited interest in food or difficulty eating enough to meet nutritional needs.
At Revelare Recovery, we understand that these experiences require individualized, compassionate treatment.
